WIC Redevelopment

Core Education successfully launched this academic year following a multi-year implementation effort. Faculty played a central role in developing new learning outcomes, criteria, and rationale (LOCR) for all Core Education categories with the exception of the Writing Intensive Curriculum (WIC). We are now revising the WIC LOCR to bring it into alignment with other Core Education categories.

We had enthusiastic interest in the WIC Learning Outcome, Criteria, and Rationale (LOCR) Redevelopment Committee, with applicants representing all undergraduate degree-granting colleges and campuses.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The WIC LOCR Workgroup will select the Developers based on a Rubric
  • The goal is to have a faculty member from each college with undergraduate programs represented.
  • The LOCR Developer and Mentors will be selected using the rubric developed by the WIC LOCR Workgroup. The selection committee members are:
    • Andrew Valls, Faculty Senate President
    • Kelsey Emard, Core Education Committee Co-chair
    • Brian Mills, Core Education Committee Co-chair
    • Kendon Kurzer, Director of the Writing Intensive Curricular Program
    • Kristin Nagy Catz, Director of Assessment
    • McKenzie Huber, Director of Core Education

The Faculty Senate will review and vote on the WIC LOCR.

We are planning on hosting a community forum to share the WIC LOCR draft before the presentation at the Faculty Senate. OSU community members will have the opportunity to give feedback and the WIC LOCR committee will have time to make necessary edits.

Units that would like to make changes to an existing WIC or propose a new WIC course before the redevelopment of the WIC LOCR may do so; however, the course will need to go back through the CIM system once the WIC LOCRs are redeveloped. It may make more sense to wait until the revised WIC LOCR is approved. Please feel free to reach out to Kendon Kurzer or McKenzie Huber if you would like to discuss the best path forward while the WIC LOCRs are under redevelopment.
