This reevaluation request form can be used to request a review of an established transfer course or education abroad course to potentially satisfy a Core Education or Baccalaureate Core category. This review requires the submission of additional supporting documentation, typically a course syllabus. Once submitted, the Office of the Registrar will review the request and attached supporting documents. They will communicate the outcome within 15 business days.
Please note:
- Requests cannot be accepted for coursework taken at OSU other than for study abroad/education abroad.
- Transfer courses may only carry and fulfill one Bacc Core category.
- Only one Core Education or Baccalaureate Core category may be submitted per form. You will need to complete additional forms if your are requesting other reevaluation for other categories. However, requesting any reevaluation will trigger a full reevaluation of the course for applicable categories and direct articulations.
- Only one transfer course may be submitted per form. You will need to complete additional forms if your are requesting reevaluations of multiple courses.
- This form is not to be used as a request for individual exception to policy nor to petition for consideration of special circumstances. This is an opportunity for students to submit additional materials for review where the information available during initial review may not have supported applying a Core Ed or Bacc Core category on its own.
- You are requesting reevaluation of a course, not petitioning on behalf of an individual.
- This form cannot be used for transfer coursework that has been determined to be a direct articulation (i.e. "equivalent") to an OSU course. Transfer courses that come in as direct articulations must carry, or not carry, the same Core Ed or Bacc Core category as the OSU course.
You will need to attach the following documents to this request form:
- Transfer course syllabus that includes a week-by-week summary of lectures, readings, assignments, projects, exams, etc.
- Optional supplemental documents that support your request.
Frequently Asked Questions
Only one Core Education category or Baccalaureate Core category may be submitted per form and only one transfer course reevaluation may be requested per form. You will need to complete additional forms if you wish to request review for additional categories or courses.
Please be aware, however, that submitting the form will trigger a full reevaluation of the course, which may include adding or changing Core Ed or Bacc Core categories that weren't requested, or adding or removing direct articulations based on the provided documentation.
A transfer course is initially evaluated from a submitted transcript to determine if it was a direct equivalent to an OSU course using publicly available course descriptions and catalog information.
If the transfer course does not meet a minimum threshold of content match, or does not meet applicable criteria for direct articulation, or if insufficient information was publicly available to make this determination at the time of initial evaluation, it will be articulated as an LDT (Lower Division Transfer 100-200 level) or UDT (Upper Division Transfer 300-400 level) in an appropriate subject area.
- Example: Transfer Course EC 201 = OSU Course ECON LDT
The form can be used to request reevaluation for Core Education, Baccalaurate Core, or Direct Articulations, among other uses. Think of it as a one stop shop for reevaluation of transfer courses and credit.
Requesting reevaluation for any transfer course will trigger a full reevaluation of the course content and learning outcomes. This may result in a course being determined to be a direct articulation (e.g. equivalent to an OSU course) or, less commonly, losing a direct articulation. All transfer courses with direct articulations must carry the same general education category as the OSU course to which it articulates. That update may result a student not being given the requested category even if it otherwise meets learning outcomes and criteria that might grant it the requested category.
- Example: Transfer Course EC 201 = OSU Course ECON 201
If you are requesting a transfer course substitution to fulfill a major requirement, please speak with your Academic Advisor.
Any Baccalaureate Core category may be requested.
Any Core Education category may be requested except for Transitions.
WIC reevaluation may be requested for Bacc Core and/or Core Ed.
A syllabus is not strictly required to request a reevaluation but it greatly increases the chances that we will have enough information to make the most appropriate articulation. You can submit any supporting documentation you can obtain, but please be aware that the Course Articulation Team has access to most course descriptions. Evidence of learning outcomes, course content, and applicable criteria must be present in documentation.
Please attach any and all documentation (e.g., course learning outcomes published by the institution, institutional curriculum documentation) beyond the course description regarding your course that you can obtain. At least one attachment is required for reevaluation.
Contact and Submission Information:
The Office of the Registrar, with the assistance of academic units and the Core Education Committee, determines the transferability of coursework completed at other institutions. Initial evaluations are determined for articulation to OSU courses and completion of Core Education or Baccalaureate Core requirements. This transfer course reevaluation form provides a secondary opportunity to evaluate the initial articulation for a transfer course with additional supporting documentation.
